SHEDRAK YOUSIF

Shedrak Yousif

He was one of the most distinguished soccer player Iraq ever had. He played for (C.C.) varsity from 1960-1962, for Army Third Division (1st Div.) team from 1963-1975.

During the period from 1965-1973 Shedrak played in Iraqi national teams. His star started shining in 1966 during the Pan Arab Championship Cup which Iraqi won.

He was slim and short, yet he exhibited marvelous characteristic such as: flabbergasting encountering ability, amazing stamina, and distributing skills.

Indeed he was considered one of the most dangerous mid-line players in Iraqi national teams.

Shedrak participated in the following championships: 1. Fourth Pan Arab Tournament 1965 held in Egypt; 2. Tripoli International Exhibition Tournament 1966 held in Libya; 3. Third Pan Arab Cup 1966 held in Iraq; 4. Finals of the Mexico Olympic Tournament 1968 held in Thailand; 5. Finals of the Munich Olympic Tournament 1972 held in W. Germany; 6. World Military Championship Cup 1972 held in Iraq; 7. Palestine Cup 1972 held in Iraq; 8. World Championship Finals 1973 held in Australia.

In 1966 Al-Riyadh newspaper considered him the best player of the year due to his swiftness, stamina, and playing skills.

Shedrak obtained two certificates in coaching in Iraq; one under the supervision of Mr. Roy Race, Dean of Welsh University in UK and the other under the supervision of Mr. George Khanlkosh, coach of Czechoslovakian national team who  is at present working as a sports commentator.
